VascAgeNet is an interdisciplinary network of #scientists, #clinicians, #engineers, and #industry working together to drive scientific and technological advances in #vascular #ageing. We will be featuring members from each discipline over the next few months.
Today, the third VascAgeNet webinar on “How can I measure vascular ageing and who benefits most from the measurements of vascular ageing?” was successfully delivered by Dr Rosa Maria Bruno (INSERM, Paris). In her talk, Rosa Maria Bruno firstly discussed the methods, strengths and limitations of the biomarkers commonly used to assess arterial ageing. Secondly, she discussed the importance of measuring vascular age including how it can improve risk stratification,
Also featured in the COST newsletter is an interview by the COST conversations featuring VascAgeNet Chair Christopher C. Mayer and WG4 leader Rosa Maria Bruno. They discuss how both the network and the CARTESIAN study were initiated and how this multidisciplinary network are now working together to investigate the vascular consequences of COVID-19. The full conversation be found on the VascAgeNet YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/VE_zJORGoAU
VascAgeNet have featured in the COST special edition June newsletter. We will collaborate with other COST Actions to undertake important COVID-19 research. Full information on all of the Actions involved can be found in the “Actions join forces to tackle the pandemic” section of the COST Newsletter.

The calls for STSM and ITC Conference Grants are open now! Please check details at https://vascagenet.eu/short-term-scientific-missions and https://vascagenet.eu/itc-grants.
On Tuesday 17th of June 2020, we had a virtual MC Meeting with around 50 participants. Our last physical MC Meeting was already some weeks ago (February 2020, Paris). Since then although we were all affected by the current pandemic, a lot of activities took place (e.g., WG activities, online meetings, webinars, budget planning for the current Grant Period, Thank you video), some were postponed (e.g., call for application for
Today, the second VascAgeNet webinar on “Basic Vascular Mechanics” was successfully delivered by Koen Reesink (Maastricht University). In his talk, Koen Reesink presented an introduction to basic vascular mechanics. Firstly, he discussed the structure and function of arteries, providing details of how we characterize them. Secondly, he discussed the interpretation of measurements of vascular mechanics, considering applications and complications such as pressure dependence, follow-up measurements, and the relationship between tissue
On Tuesday 19/05/2020, we had a very interesting information session on the CARTESIAN (Covid-19 ARTErial Stiffness and vascular AgiNg) Study. Rosa Maria Bruno, who is one of the principal investigators of the study, presented the collaborative, multicentre research project in order to explore medium- and long-term vascular consequences of COVID-19. The CARTESIAN is currently launched by the Artery Society, with the support of our COST Action VascAgeNet. The presentation can
